200-year anniversary of Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein 15.10.2024

special stamp Wiener Städtische

Austrian Post congratulates the Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein with a commemorative stamp for its 200th anniversary.

On 24 December 1824, Georg Ritter von Högelmüller founded the "Mutual Imperial Royal Privileged Fire Damage Insurance Institution", which eventually developed into the Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein. This organisation is the main shareholder of the Vienna Insurance Group (VIG) and supports it through funding in the social, artistic, and cultural sectors. The headquarters of the insurance group is the Ringturm tower on the Schottenring in Vienna, which was opened in 1955 as the city's first office high-rise. The foyer of the building houses the exhibition centre "Architecture in the Ringturm". Since 2006, the tower has been wrapped annually in printed mesh panels designed by renowned artists. The stamp design features the 2008 wrapping, "Tower in bloom", by Hubert Schmalix. In the anniversary year of 2024, the distinguished Austrian artist Johanna Kandl will depict the insurance group's key success factors, such as courage and solidarity, in her work "With the best ingredients".
