Special post office and Philately Day, "A glimpse into 60 years of Blockheide"

To mark the 60th anniversary of Blockheide nature reserve, the Heidemännlein mascot has been featured on a special commemorative stamp. The special post office at the Carl Hermann House was open on 4th August 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Carl Hermann is involved in nature and landscape projects, using his unique creative approach. Due to the region’s remarkable rock formations, as well as its distinctive flora and fauna from a conservation perspective, Carl Hermann reached out to the relevant authorities to secure protection for the area east of Gmünd, now known as Blockheide. His efforts were successful, and since the early 1960s, the area has been designated as a nature reserve.

Carl Hermann collects local folklore about Blockheide, recording the legends and tales about places such as the Pilzstein, Christophorusstein, Teufels Bettstatt, Schullerstein, and Teufels Brotlaib. These stories, along with his reliefs, are digitally accessible at the monoliths or via www.carlhermann.at.
