Sometimes, successful careers begin in unexpected ways. That was certainly the case for Andrea Glatz, who started at Austrian Post in 2006 as a temporary holiday cover. What began as a short-term role soon developed into an impressive leadership career.

"I originally planned to step in for just three months, but then another temporary job came along, and in 2007, I started working part-time in pre-sorting," Andrea recalls. Her passion and dedication quickly caught the attention of her colleagues. In 2011, she was promoted to Deputy Distribution Manager, and by 2015, she was leading her own team. "It was an exciting time with lots of new tasks and challenges," she says. In 2017, Andrea became an Assistant Regional Manager before being promoted to Site Manager in 2023.

From all-rounder to leader

"I've done just about every job there is in a delivery hub," Andrea says laughing. This hands-on experience helped her take on full responsibility for an entire site in 2023. "Becoming a Site Manager was a big step, but it was absolutely worth it. You're constantly learning something new, and that's exactly what I love about my job."

What drives a career?

"I found the work exciting from the very start and always wanted to learn more," Andrea explains. Her curiosity didn’t go unnoticed—her managers recognised her potential and actively supported her development. "Austrian Post is a dynamic company. You have to adapt and keep learning, but that’s what makes it so interesting. If you're committed, there are plenty of opportunities here."

Women in leadership: still room for growth

Andrea sees potential for further supporting women in leadership roles: "Austrian Post is already doing a lot, but part-time work remains a challenge. There are no part-time leadership positions, which can be a barrier for many women. Patience and perseverance are important, but the opportunities are there."
