Summerjob turned career Katharinas way at austrian post

Katharina’s career path at Austrian Post began in an unusual yet inspiring way. What started as a summer job soon turned into an impressive professional career.
“I was still a student when my mum told me that Austrian Post was looking for summer employees. I applied straight away and worked there during the summer holidays for two years in a row,” Katharina recalls. After finishing school, she initially decided to pursue a degree but soon realised that university wasn’t the right path for her. Instead, she got back in touch with Austrian Post and started an apprenticeship in “Local and Distribution Logistics” in Hausmannstätten. “This solid training allowed me to gain insight into all areas, which was an incredibly enriching experience.”

Taking the leap: leadership experience as a young woman

After completing her apprenticeship in 2022, Katharina quickly took on responsibility as a team leader at her base. Especially as a young woman in a leadership role, she had to prove herself: “At first, it was difficult to gain the acceptance of the experienced delivery staff as a young woman. But over time, they saw that the changes I introduced had a positive impact.” Her success proved her right – teamwork improved significantly, and she was able to gain valuable leadership experience.

Just a few months later, Katharina was promoted to Regional Management Assistant for two bases. “That was an exciting time, which allowed me to develop even further.” Today, she works in personnel management, supporting site managers, training new colleagues, and helping to organise “Welcome Days” for new employees. “No two days are the same – that’s exactly what makes my job so varied and exciting,” she says.

More women in leadership positions

As a successful woman in a leadership role, gender equality is particularly important to Katharina. “Young women shouldn’t be reduced to their potential family plans. Instead, we should give them opportunities and actively support them.” This is the only way to make leadership positions more attractive to women, Katharina believes.

Bottom line: seize opportunities and grow

Katharina’s journey is a powerful example of the diverse career opportunities at Austrian Post – and how dedication, courage, and a willingness to grow can pave the way to success. Her story is an inspiring example for anyone ready to seize opportunities and develop through them.
