175th anniversary of “Die Presse” 14.06.2023
For 175 years, "Die Presse" has been one of Austria's leading high-quality newspapers, keeping around 250,000 people informed every day.
August Zang and Leopold Landsteiner founded the moderately liberal newspaper in the revolutionary year of 1848; the first issue was published on 3 July 1848. In 1864, the editors in chief left the company and founded the "Neue Freie Presse", which became the most influential newspaper of the liberal educated middle classes that even had its own building at the Vienna World’s Fair of 1873. After the end of the World War II and National Socialist control, former "Presse" editor Ernst Molden re-founded "Die Presse". Today it is owned by the Styria Media Group and stands for high-quality moderately liberal journalism that is independent of political parties.
