Prize card-playing tournament and Philately Day at the Austrian Postal and Telegraph Museum
On 27th July 2024, the Postal and Telegraph Museum Eisenerz organised a prize card-playing tournament ("schnapsen") in collaboration with Austrian Post to mark the issuance of four commemorative stamps celebrating the 200th anniversary of the long-established company Piatnik..
To commemorate the 200th birthday of Austria’s oldest and largest games publisher, Piatnik, Austrian Post released four miniature sheets designed in the format of playing cards. Each stamp represents the ace in the four suits of hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs.
In celebration of this issue, the Austrian Postal and Telegraph Museum Eisenerz, with the support of Austrian Post, hosted a prize schnapsen tournament at the museum.
"With the Piatnik commemorative stamps, we had a particularly witty idea: each ace in a deck of cards is its own stamp. A prize schnapsen event supported by Austrian Post at the Postal Museum in Eisenerz is the perfect opportunity to bring Austrian Post and Piatnik even closer together," said Georg Pölzl, CEO of Austrian Post.
The playing cards used for schnapsen on this day were provided by Piatnik, while Austrian Post supplied the prizes. The winner received a gold Crypto stamp worth 500 euros.
