Innovation meets tradition: silver-niobium coin and Crypto stamp Digitalisation

Collaboration between the Austrian Mint and Austrian Post

The Austrian Mint and Austrian Post AG are bringing together not only coins and stamps but also their digital counterparts—for a unique and future-oriented collecting experience. The exclusive set on the theme of Digitalisation consists of a 25-euro silver-niobium coin and the matching Crypto stamp.

There are many points of connection: for the first time, both the Crypto stamp and the silver-niobium coin feature a Non-Fungible Token (NFT)—a digital twin—on the blockchain. These can be accessed using the coin’s unique certificate number and the Crypto stamp’s token ID. Additionally, both the coin and the Crypto stamp contain genuine silver. This collaboration marks the first time that a coin from the Austrian Mint has been extended into the blockchain and crypto space.

The 25-euro silver-niobium coin: Digitalisation

The silver-niobium coin features a two-tone design in green and violet, reflecting the theme of digitalisation. On the niobium core of the value side, a pointing finger taps a smartphone—icons for play, camera, music, and a digital clock symbolise multifunctionality. The silver outer ring depicts their analogue counterparts. The reverse side continues this contrast: analogue items such as a rotary dial telephone and movable type for letterpress printing appear on the silver ring. In the centre, digital equivalents are shown—a cloud with an @ symbol, a pixelated book, and an industrial robot. At the heart of the design are the letters “KI” (Artificial Intelligence in German), surrounded by a microchip connecting all elements.

The silver-niobium coin is struck by hand, has a face value of 25 euros, and is composed of 900 fine silver with a niobium core. The design was created by Anna Schlindner, Rebecca Wilding, and Helmut Andexlinger.

The Crypto stamp Digitalisation

The Crypto stamp Digitalisation takes its design cues from the silver-niobium coin and also features green and violet tones. The security pigment contains genuine silver, giving the surface of the stamp a shimmering effect when viewed in the light. It has a face value of 21.80 euros and can be used for mailing letters and parcels domestically or internationally. An integrated NFC chip ensures authentication and enables activation of the digital twins of both the Crypto stamp and the silver-niobium coin. The NFT version of the Crypto stamp can be revealed in one of five colours—black, green, blue, yellow, or red. The design of the Crypto stamp Digitalisation is by Lisa Filzi.
